Hey!!! I haven't posted on this page since 2014. I saw that it was still active and thought I should at least post a link to my own band's latest release. Sinking Suns "Dark Days" was released in July 2022. If you're not familiar with us... it's noise-rock. post-punk. death-rock. dark-punk. You get the point. You can stream it on bandcamp or Spotify. Featuring ex-members of Dirt and cover art by none other than the Jesus Lizard's David Yow, Seersucker's Pushing Rope is a similar beast to the aforementioned Georgia band's grungy southern brand of noisy rock. Falling somewhere in the time span between Dirt and its more well known John Forbes led northern cousin Mount Shasta in Chicago, this loud, raucous and driving release never received to due I always thought was deserved. Recently having re-purchased this CD after having traded it for a pack of cigs in my monetarily poor and mentally foggy mid-twenties sometime in the mid-90's, I've been playing it non-stop since. Give it a listen.

This release has been on my mind as of late. I scoured the Internet to see if I could find a rip to listen to since I only had it on vinyl and wanted to listen to it while away from the old turntable. I couldn't find anything. So...I ripped it myself and here is my first Enemy Lines post in quite some time.

This was released back in 1991 on small indie Box Dog Records out of Seattle. I don't know very much about the label other than the fact they were going to be releasing a VHS only copy of Melvins live Island of a Thousand Delights video sometime after this record came out. The band was made up of two guys (on vox and guitar) and the rhythm section was made up of two women

The release itself is an amalgamation of Midwestern noise-rock, Northwestern grunge and a sort of Southern stoner boogie rock. To me the stand-out track is the first song on the second side...Technicolor Wonderland. It has a Shorty-esque vibe with a heavy driving rhythm and chaotic Yow/Al Johnson style vocals.

Digging out old vinyl like this really brings me back to a simpler time of browsing record store racks for used $2 vinyl records by bands I never heard of and getting my mind blown on a regular basis. Enjoy.

Here we have what is supposedly the last unreleased record/demo from Austin Texas' Ed Hall. From what I can gather, this was recorded the same year they broke up...in 1996. While I lean more towards "demo" on this one due to the overall mix when compared to La La Land, Motherscratcher and Gloryhole, these songs still contain the same psychedelic Texas noise-rock fans came to love over their 10+ year span.

This recording was originally released as a 7 song "demo" by my current band late last year. Upon it's release we received a good amount of positive feedback nationally and internationally and because of that we decided to have it remixed, remastered and re-release the entire recording as a full fledged official self-titled debut. Two of the remastered songs will be released on 7" vinyl in February 2013 and old fashioned hard copy CD's will be available for those who prefer that format also. In the meantime we've been writing new material and should be recording again sometime this year. In the meantime...enjoy.

This is the sole release by Paul Sanders' post-Hammerhead project moreRam. It proved to be short-lived, producing only this one 7-inch for Fargo's Meat Records. The band also included Janitor Joe's Matt Entsminger and Mike Phillips of Silver Salute. Imagine an amalgamation of the the aforementioned bands and you get the idea.

When I relocated from Wisconsin to Albuquerque New Mexico back in 1995, I was introduced to both great new music and awesome new friends. This particular band encapsulated both.

The Chinese Love Beads were a straight-up, balls-out lo-fi garage Rock (capital "R" emphasized) band. The best thing? They were really cool guys and I struck up a friendship with them almost immediately.

The band was made up of Ernie “Guido” Ybarra on bass and vox, Pauli B. (Pablo Novelas of Dirty Novels fame) on guitar and drummer Mike Morales (who went on to drum in the band Siva).

While local Albuquerque bands like The Drags, Scared of Chaka and The Eyeliners were getting national attention, the Love Beads were flying under the radar but working, and more importantly ROCKING, just as hard.

Give 'em a digital spin.

Here we have a Man... or Astroman 7" record which was released on Estrus Records back in 1996. I own several other LP's and singles by MOAM, but this one is still my favorites. It includes four blazing tracks of their mostly instrumental retro space themed surf rock.

Some straight up old school classic country music from Gary Floyd (Dicks, Sister Double Happiness) with producer Jonathan Burnside (Melvins, Steel Pole Bathtub, Clutch, Jawbreaker) on guitar and Ed Ivey (The Rhythm Pigs) on bass. And when I say straight up country music, I mean straight up "crying in your beer down at the local honky-tonk" country music. Released on sky blue vinyl.

For a few years in the mid to late 90's I was REALLY big into the whole "Garage Rock" punk revival thing (I still am today, just not AS big). Bands like Oblivians, The Motards and The Drags dominated my turntable. Those bands turned me on to other bands through their respective labels and Estrus Records was one of those labels. When I went down to the local record store and perused through the latest vinyl releases, I knew when I came across a new Estrus release it was bound to be good. This particular CD was a freebie. It came free with any purchase at one of the local record stores in Albuquerque at the time (Bow Wow? Mind Over Matter? Tulane Exchange? I don't recall exactly). And thanks to this sampler, I picked up even more great Estrus releases. Great label, great sampler. Check it out...

Pure balls out redneck rock fury.

I was first introduced to Nine Pound Hammer with this album back in 1995 and this particular release still stands the test of time as one of the greatest “cow-punk” records ever in my opinion. Whether being tongue-in-cheek hillbilly or dead serious southern boys, these Kentucky bred country punkers deliver the goods. They have several more releases which are all great in their own respect, but this one is the perfect primer to their hardcore honky-tonk catalog. This shit is the real deal and is not for the faint of heart.

If you are a fan of the band, I am sure you have heard many of these songs before, but the versions on this recording differ in a couple ways. First and foremost (and not surprisingly), the quality is not as good as any of the official releases (as most bootlegs are), but it is still very listenable. Secondly, this lineup not only features Henry Rollins and Greg Ginn, it also includes Dez Cadena and Chuck Dukowski (no Kira Roessler). But my favorite member of this lineup is the only one who does not appear on any other release and that would be the legendary Chuck Biscuits (DOA, Danzig, etc...) on drums. This was recorded at the midway point of the band's existence as they were transitioning into a slower more metallic sound. If you're a fan and have not heard this, check it out.

Oblivians. Jack, Greg and Eric. Memphis Creep is the cream of this seven song crop of tunes, but all in all this is a great record...and a 10" vinyl pressing to boot. Classic mid-90's noisy garage rock.

My second favorite Australian band, The Cosmic Psychos. Rock and fuckin' Roll. This was Robbie "Rocket" Watts (RIP) first release with the band as their guitarist and in my opinion their best release. They have a few more full lengths after this one which I love, but this one kicks some serious ass. Saw 'em live in 1996 in ABQ at the Golden West Saloon...they wanted to come over to the pad to party after the show and maybe catch some Zzz, but the wife (who was my young girlfriend at the time) was having none of it. Fun times nonetheless. Enjoy.

Probably TAD's greatest achievement since God's Balls and Salt Lick, this record is one of my favorite Am Rep singles. Released in '97, this is some killer Northwestern US noise-rock (fuck grunge) at it's finest. Why Tad Doyle didn't put out a full length LP on Am Rep during this period is beyond me. Great stuff...

Before Mule, PW Long was in WIG. Side A is pretty similar to early "Tennessee Hustler" era Mule. Side B sounds more like a Laughing Hyena influenced thing. In either case...it's some good pre-Mule PW Long stuff you are bound to enjoy if you like any of the aforementioned bands. 300 pressed on gold vinyl.

Here is another Super Seven release featuring the band Diet Christ who I believe were based in Carbondale IL back in the late 80's. It is an 8 song 7" EP on red vinyl (they squeezed every bit of music on it as they could). I was lucky enough to see them when I was back in high school in GB WI at the infamous Kutska's Hall. Diet Christ blew my mind as a kid and still garner my respect all these years later. They were some straight up Midwestern hardcore punk rock not too different than a lot of the other bands who released records on the Super Seven label. This is the real shit right here.

A little bit self-promotion...a little bit "what is good for the goose is good for the gander"...here is some Below The Sound. I played bass and sang in this band from 1999 to 2007. We were based in Albuquerque NM and has several releases on labels such as Dirty Decibel (NM), Berserker Records (CO), Crucial Blast (MD) and Crustacean Records (WI). We toured, played a bunch of shows with some great bands and finally called it quits in 2007 due to my relocation back to WI. It's some T&G/Am Rep/Dischord influenced Midwest/East-coast noise-rock from a group of ex-pats living in the high desert. Clear vinyl...still have some for sale...wink wink.
